Pat Pilchard's subjects are primarily flowers and plants. Instead of using a camera, she uses a flat-bed scanner and a computer where the files are modified using Photoshop. She first began making these prints in 1996. The images are printed by Pat using an Epson printer. Her digital images are produced using archival permanent inks and archival paper in sizes ranging from 4" x 6" to 24" x 44". Her images now include a new line of abstract collages as well as collages of faces. An interesting project was of fifteen different images of the cereus flower, a cactus plant that only blooms for one night each year. It blooms as night falls, and then dies with the morning sun. Her prints have been in many competitive exhibitions. An example would be her acceptance into The Boston Printmakers 2005 North American Print Biennial. There were over 1,700 entries and the show was curated by Joann Moser, senior Curator of Graphic Arts at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Pat has had prints in exhibitions at SECCA in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her background includes many years as a graphic designer and artist. The prints can be seen in North Carolina at Hands Gallery in Boone, Main Street Gallery in Blowing Rock, at N.C.Craft Gallery in Carrboro, in the Piedmont Craftsmen Gallery and the Hawthorne Gallery in Winston-Salem. They are also in private and corporate collections. |
